Khloe Kardashian is standing up for her husband in the wake of some seriously scathing allegations.
Earlier this month, ESPN’s Outside the Lines investigated the tax returns of numerous athlete-created charities, noting that Lamar Odom’s organization (Cathy’s Kids) has not contributed a penny to any cancer-related causes.
Moreover, when approached with this information, Odom waved away a reporter, saying of his charity’s $2.2 million: “It’s my money.”
But Khloe writes in a new blog post that Odom is referring to the fact that he’s personally contributed 90% of that fund to the charity, explaining:
“No charitable funds were misused, and the IRS has repeatedly given Cathy’s Kids a clean bill of health, confirming that there were no improprieties.”
Kardashian adds that Cathy’s Kids, named after Lamar’s late mother, was not set-up solely to assist cancer patients and/or research.
“A decision was ultimately made that the charity should… enrich the lives of underprivileged inner-city youth. It accomplished that goal. Cathy’s Kids helped fund multiple AAU basketball teams providing underprivileged youth with opportunities enriching their lives, providing financial support for coaching and travel to tournaments, helping inner-city youth on a path toward success and leading many participants to go on to college.”
We may need to give Lamar the benefit of the doubt here.
Because setting up a charity meant to help those with cancer? And instead using it to line the pockets of his former high school basketball coach, as the ESPN report implied?
Even for someone related to Kim Kardashian, that’s pretty low.
