We don’t often bring you trailers from festival-favorite German films, but there’s so much hype surrounding the first Stateside preview of Goodnight Mommy that we figured you’d like to see it for yourself.
Across the Internet, the 2-minute, 23-second clip is being hailed as "the scariest movie trailer of all time."
High praise for a teaser in which there’s nary a ghost or axe murderer to be seen.
But maybe that’s exactly what makes the Goodnight Mommy trailer so damn eerie: We can feel the tension building but we have no idea where it will lead.
Or maybe it’s the way the filmmakers subvert our expectations by making the mom the creepy one instead of the blonde German twins.
Or maybe it’s just that freaky-ass cockroach scene.
We’ll leave it up to you to decide if the film deserves the insane amount of buzz it’s been receiving, but even if you don’t agree that it’s the scariest of all time, you’ve gotta give credit to the makers of the Goodnight Mommy trailer for building this much anticipation for a subtitled horror flick.
The movie hits US theaters September 11.
