The cheerleading team at Lumberton High School in Texas is standing up against those who claims their 9/11 tribute routine is offense and insensitive
Each year, the students that comprise this squad “honor and remember the first responders who gave their lives,” along with “those who still mourn the hole left by lost loved ones,” according to cheer sponsor Lauren Sheffield.
They do so on September 11 via a performance set to “God Bless the USA.” It includes audio from the tragic date in 2001, including news reports and remarks by President Bush at the time.
The latest routine has been viewed on Facebook over 22 million times, with some praising it as “amazing” and others as “cringeworthy.”
"It is certainly never anything we could have ever imagined," Sheffield told E! News in response to the viral nature of this routine, adding:
"We are totally humbled that something we work hard on, year after year, can make such a huge impact. One of our cheerleaders, Rachel Richard, put it perfectly, ‘This wasn’t a way for us to show off. It was a way for us to use our skills in honor of our country.’"
Do you believe the girls have successfully done that?
