Even when he makes his own history, Alex Rodriguez cannot escape the shadow of Derek Jeter.

The Yankees third baseman became the 29th member of baseball’s iconic 3,000-hit club on Friday night, doing by in the same fashion as his former teammate when Jeter joined these ranks in 2013:

A-Rod deposited the first pitch he saw from Justin Verlander over the right field wall for a home run.

The blast gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead and resulted in Rodriguez’s teammates greeting him outside the dugout with a series of hugs.

Rodriguez, of course, is a known steroid user, liar and general tool of a human being.

But he’s had a shocking bounce back season following a year-long suspension, remaining humble, saying the right things and producing at the plate.

He may go down as the most confounding superstar athlete of all-time.

Watch his historic home run here.
