Just about every time we bring you new news about Teen Mom OG star Ryan Edwards, it has to do with a new round of misfortunes for Maci Bookout’s troubled ex.
So in a sense, this is a refreshing change of pace.
Today, we can update you on some good news for Ryan … well, sort of.
You see, Edwards was released from jail today after spending the past week behind bars.
Unfortunately, that short-term victory precedes what’s likely to be a series of crushing defeats for Edwards.
Here’s what we know about the situation so far:
Another Brush With the Law
Edwards was arrested for the third time in just over a year last week after allegedly violating the terms of his probation.
The Downward Spiral
Ryan’s legal troubles began back in March of 2017 when he arrested on heroin possession charges.
Strike Two
Less than a year later, Edwards was arrested again, this time for failing a court-ordered drug test.
No More Second Chances
As a result of his continued probation violations, Edwards was held in police custody after he arrested for a third time on July 23.
A Stroke of Luck
It was originally reported that Ryan would remain behind bars until his August 6 court date, but today things went Edwards’ way for a change.
Free at Last
According to Radar Online, Edwards was released from Hamilton County Jail in Tennessee at around 2 am this morning.
Why the Odd Timing?
Correctional facilities generally prefer to process high-profile inmates late at night in order to avoid media attention.
Violation Details
Radar also claims to have information regarding the nature of Edwards’ latest probation violation.
He Can’t Stop Messing Up
According to an arrest warrant obtained by the site, Ryan missed a court date in May, and an arrest warrant was issued the following day.
A Bit of Good Fortune
As for why Ryan was sprung from jail ahead of schedule, a spokesperson explained the decision to Radar:
Getting Off Scot-Free
“The first count of simple possession of heroin — position to revoke [probation] has been dismissed,” the spokesman says.
A Slap on the Wrist
“For the second count of simple possession of heroin … he was given 11 months, 29 days suspended sentence,” the spokesman concludes.
Come Again?
The gist of all that legalese is that Ryan won’t serve any jail time for the first round of charges.
One Lucky Guy
He will, however, be forced to serve an additional six months probation and compete five days of community service.
Not Out of the Woods
Of course, Ryan still has one major court date looming, and he could still be sent to prison when he goes in front of a judge on August 6.
Will He Slip Up Again?
And of course, there’s always the possibility that Edwards will violate his probation a third time.
Still Fighting the Law
Six more months of probation means at least six more random drug tests, and thus far, those who proven to be a problem for Ryan.

A Growing Family
Edwards’ wife, Mackenzie Standifer, is currently pregnant with his child. Mackenzie is set to give birth in October. Here’s hoping Ryan isn’t behind bars on the big day.
