It’s been a good long while since the Teen Mom franchise had a villain as universally hated as Mackenzie Standifer.
Which is really something when you consider the kind of literal trash MTV has shown us over the years.
Seriously, this is a show that’s featured the likes of Adam Lind, Nathan Griffith, David Eason, Matt Baier, Catelynn Lowell’s mom … the list of horrible people goes on and on.
But nope, Mackenzie is the real monster here.
Believe it or not, many people actually think that, and with all of Ryan Edwards’ recent issues, people are hating on her more than ever.
Why?
Let’s discuss.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwards
OK, so Ryan and Mackenzie met somehow, somewhere — she says they met at the gym, but who even knows — they quickly got engaged, and though they were planning a wedding for November of 2017, they up and got hitched in a parking lot by the river last May first.
Red Flags, Girl

She said that they were getting married to help him gain more custody of Bentley, which didn’t make sense, but what was really alarming was that he drove them to that little wedding high on heroin.
Noooooo

Teen Mom fans weren’t too fond of Mackenzie before that — in an earlier episode that season, we saw her go behind Maci’s back to trash her to Ryan and his parents — but when she turned off the cameras instead of taking control of that horrible situation, the hate really started going strong.
525,600 Minutes

But then on the reunion special when Mackenzie read an open letter to Maci, basically blaming her for Ryan’s addiction … well, that’s when she pretty much set herself up for a lifetime of loathing.
Just Stop, Mack
This current season of Teen Mom OG started off at that very reunion, and Mackenzie’s been digging her hole deeper ever since. She keeps obsessing over Maci in a really immature, catty way, and it’s definitely not been a good look for her.
There’s a Line
But while she’s undoubtedly obnoxious and not very likable, she’s been getting just an insanely massive amount of criticism now that Ryan’s whole entire life is falling apart.
Bad Ryan
Ryan was arrested late last month for violating the probation he was on for possession charges, and that same day, the news came out that he’d been trolling Tinder again behind Mackenzie’s back.
And a Baby on the Way

This is also when we learned that Mackenzie is currently pregnant with her first child with Ryan, so, you know, unfortunate timing.
Way Too Far
Soon after that, we learned that Maci and Taylor filed for orders of protection against Ryan for themselves and the kids because he’d allegedly been threatening them. Maci said in court documents that he’d told her he’d kidnap Bentley, and Taylor stated in his that Ryan actually threatened to murder him.
So Awful
These are all terrible, terrible things, but you know who’s to blame for all of it? Ryan.
Facts

Ryan is the one who does heroin, he’s the one who chooses to threaten Maci and her family, he’s the one who’s a bad father. Mackenzie has her own issues, but she can’t be blamed for what Ryan does.
Denial?
According to a new report from Us Weekly, there’s even a good explanation for how unlikable Mackenzie’s been this season: she’s simply in denial.
Complete Denial, to Be Specific

âÂÂMackenzie is in complete abject denial about RyanâÂÂs drug addiction and issues surrounding how very, very serious it truly is,” a source claims. “Mackenzie only wants to focus on having his baby and seems to be hoping that this will help him to be inspired to live a clean and sober life.âÂÂ
Denial All Around
The source adds that âÂÂRyan denies the seriousness of the drug addiction, like any addict will do, and Mackenzie chooses to believe him.”
Adding to the Pile …

And for one extra little bit of sadness, the source also says that âÂÂThere was real concern for RyanâÂÂs sobriety at the reunion and he was urged to get further treatment by close to the show off-camera, but refused. There is a genuine and real fear that Ryan could die because of his drug addiction.âÂÂ
Too Depressing
It’s all very upsetting, of course, but it’s not like Mackenzie is some special kind of monster — this stuff is all pretty normal for families dealing with addiction, especially for 21-year-olds dealing with husbands who are addicted to heroin, we imagine.
What a Mess
For whatever reason, Mackenzie has found herself in this situation, and it really seems like she’s in over her head. Sure, she’s been ridiculous about Maci, and she does enable Ryan to be a bad father and a bad co-parent and to just do so many bad things.
Another Possibility

But instead of considering that she’s young and immature and dealing with a lot, or even that she’s just a simple girl with a mean streak, so many Teen Mom fans seem convinced that she’s literally the devil.
“A FREAKING IDIOT”
While it’s true that Mackenzie needs to watch out for her four-year-old son Hudson in all this, isn’t calling her names like this a little much?
Securing the Bag
Did she really marry Ryan and get pregnant all for money?
Kailyn Thinks So
Kailyn Lowry took the time to weigh in on the situation — that’s how juicy this gossip has been — and she seems not to think too highly of Mackenzie.
Disgusting?
And lots and lots of people agreed with Kailyn.
You Too, Perez?
Even Perez Hilton got in on the Mackenzie hate.
Whoa
Is she really this bad that she can be compared to Matt Baier? Honestly?
So Many Feelings
Look, obviously Mackenzie has some things she needs to work on, and obviously she’s gotten herself into a bad situation. She does enable Ryan, and she does allow her son around him while he’s obviously been using hard drugs for a long time, and she’s also having another baby with him when he really has no business trying to be a father.
Thoughts?

But is she seriously worse than any other Teen Mom villain?
