If you’re a Teen Mom OG fan, then by now, you’re probably aware that Ryan Edwards has spent the past few months royally effing up just about every aspect of his life.
Ryan has gotten arrested; he’s fallen off the wagon; he’s cheated on his wife; and he’s gone to great lengths to alienate those closest to him.
But for all of his repugnant behavior, perhaps nothing is more appalling than the news that Ryan threatened the life of Maci Bookout’s husband, Taylor McKinney.
Now, it looks as though Ryan will pay for that crime dearly, as Maci has taken steps to protect her family by separating Ryan from that which matters most to him.
Here’s what we know so far…
Downfall
Ryan’s latest round of troubles began back in March, when he was arrested for a probation violation stemming from a 2017 arrest for heroin possession.
The Truth Comes Out
In the weeks that followed the arrest, a number of surprising revelations about Edwards emerged, and fans realzed the narrative about his redemption and recovery from addiction was fraudulent.
A Shameful Secret
For starters, it was revealed that Ryan had been using a misleading dating profile to try and cheat on his pregnant wife, Mackenzie Standifer.
One Loyal Wife
Remarkably, Mackenzie has stood by Ryan regardless, even helping him in his efforts to keep his original possession arrest a secret. But there were some things the couple wasn’t able to conceal …
His Lowest Point
Amid the deluge of shocking revelations about Ryan, fans learned that he had issued a threat to Maci Bookout’s husband, Taylor McKinney.
Taking Action
Alleging that Ryan had threatened to shoot Taylor in the head, Maci and Taylor filed for orders of protection for themselves and their children, includng 9-year-old Bentley, Maci’s son with Ryan.
A Crushing Blow
The orders were granted temporarily, thus prohibiting Ryan from having any contact with Maci or anyone in her immediate family.
Round 2
On Monday, Maci, Taylor, and Ryan were back in court. This time, the McKinneys requested that the judge extend their restraining orders for a period of two years.
A Serious Threat
“I fear for my son’s safety because of these threats and proof that he drives while under the influence,†Maci wrote in court documents.
A Worsening Situation
“His behavior and actions are getting worse, I am fearful for my three children and myself, and what he may do, based on his threats,” she added.
Partial Victory
The judge decided to grant Maci and Taylor’s requests for themselves and their two sons, Jayde and Maverick.
Ryan’s Hope
However, the order granted to Bentley was dismissed. But that doesn’t mean Ryan will find it easy to once agan become a fixture in his son’s life.
The Rare Victory For Ryan
“The judge dismissed the ex parte order of protection and then entered a mutual restraining order,” a Hamilton County Circuit Court Public Information Officer told E! News.
What It All Means
Obviously, it’s good news for Ryan that he’ll be able to once again have contact wth his son. But he still has MANY legal hurdles to clear going forward.
A Mixed Bag
Many who have been following this case closely still say Maci has the clear upper hand in her custody battle with Ryan, and this week’s developments didn’t do much to help him.
Still Restricted
As many have pointed out, Ryan is still only allowed supervised visits with Bentley that must take place in the home of his parents.
The Storm to Come
On top of that, the fact that Maci and Taylor were granted two-year restraining orders is sure to reflect VERY poorly on Ryan when he and Maci once again square off in their ongoing custody battle.
An Optimistic Outlook
“Ryan has no exclusions with Bentley and is still able to see his son under the new restraining order,†Ryan’s attorney told E! News.
Moving Forward …
“This gives Ryan a lot more protection against any false allegations, allows him to avoid getting arrested without a hearing first, and allows him to be around his son most importantly,” he added. “Moving forward Ryan hopes everyone can get through this without any issues and that he can see his son.†Something tells us the future won’t be as issue-free as Ryan hopes.
