Just when you think Jenelle Evans and David Eason have sunk as low as they can possibly go, they find a way to abase themselves even further.
As you’re probably aware, Jenelle has lost custody of all of her children, as Child Protective Services determined that her husband is a threat to the kids’ safety.
Last week, the Easons were in court, desperately fighting to regain custody, and for reasons that defy explanation, David thought it would be a good idea to bring a freakin’ gun with him.
This left fans with a lot of questions, primarily — how is he this stupid? And, is he trying to sabotage his wife’s chances of regaining custody?

These Two
You almost have to admire the skill with which they consistently f–k their lives up. But then you remember there are kids involved, and you just get sad.
Both Abuser and Victim
At this point, David has essentially victimized his entire family — but that doesn’t mean Jenelle is innocent. In fact, quite the opposite is true.
The Terrible Twosome
Both Jenelle and David have been accused of child abuse numerous times over the years, but he’s the only one currently under investigation by CPS.
RIP, Nugget
The latest scandal started when David shot and killed Jenelle’s pet dog in a fit of rage.
Her Decision
When Jenelle chose to remain with David despite his obvious instability and violent tendencies, CPS intervened and removed the kids from the home.
A Shot at Redemption
On Friday, Jenelle and David were in court to try and regain custody of her two youngest children and his daughter from a previous marriage. As you can see, they weren’t exactly in high spirits during a recess in the proceedings.
David Was Packin’
But what you may not have noticed in that clip is David’s firearm, which can be seen on the dashboard of his car.
Confirmation
Following some stellar detective work from Teen Mom 2 fans (or just people who hate Jenelle), The Ashley’s Reality Roundup confirmed on Monday that it was definitely a gun on David’s dash.
Further Confirmation
And then, a person identified only as a “rep” for Jenelle and David issued a statement arguing that it’s totally cool and normal for these two to bring weapons to a CPS hearing.
No Felonies, No Problem
“In the state of North Carolina, if you aren’t a felon you can have a gun with no permit,†the statement reads.
Out in the Open
“The gun has to be in ‘plain sight’ if you do not have a concealed carry permit,” the rep continues.
Thanks For the Explanation, Rep!
“This is so when the cops pull you over or you’re out in public you cannot even have your shirt over the holster or you will be charged with a felony,” the statement concludes.
Justified
So as the rep explained, it’s legal for Jenelle and David to run around town with a gun on their dash, as — believe it or not — neither of them has ever been convicted of a felony.
Technicality
They have many, many arrests and misdemeanor convictions between them, but since they’ve both managed to skirt the “felon” label, there are very few limits on when and where they can bring loaded weapons.
Smart Move … For a Change
Importantly, David left the gun in the car, as carrying it into the building would have been illegal, even for a non-felon like him.
Good to Know
“It shall be unlawful for any person to possess, or carry, whether openly or concealed, any deadly weapon, not used solely for instructional or officially sanctioned ceremonial purposes in the State Capitol Building, the Executive Mansion, the Western Residence of the Governor, or on the grounds of any of these buildings, and in any building housing any court of the General Court of Justice,” reads the National Center for State Courts‘ website.
The Optics, Though
So it was perfectly legal for David to bring a loaded weapon to his CPS hearing … but that doesn’t mean it was smart.
Their Own Worst Enemies
Jenelle and David were there to convince the authorities that they’re capable of providing a safe environment for children and that David is not some lunatic gun nut.
Just Sayin’
Bringing a gun to the courthouse probably wasn’t the most effective way to go about that. No surprise, then, that Jenelle and David’s kids still are not in their custody.
