Ever since Jonathan Rivera and Fernanda Flores split, the 90 Day Fiance pair have been making veiled statements on social media.
Until now, the latest barb from either side was Fernanda accusing Jonathan of being disloyal.
That was before Fernanda took to Instagram to reflect upon going through “hell” — that was the word she used.
Perhaps she meant it as an insult towards Jonathan, or maybe she just wanted to sound inspiring.
Either way, she received intense backlash from fans.
Fernanda ended up revising her words.
Take a look for yourself and decide exactly what she’s trying to say about her ex:
Fernanda Flores is getting slammed
It began when she reflected upon having gone through “hell,” presumably during her marriage to her now estranged husband, Jonathan Rivera.
She shared this photo
While Fernanda is a gorgeous model and looks great in this bra, it was her caption that drew the ire of fans once the pic had drawn their eye.
This is the original version
Yes, this is the “original,” because Fernanda changed it after some massive backlash. This screenshot was snapped by 90 Day Fiance blogger John Yates, who also preserved some of the intense comments that you’re about to see.
She went through HELL?
One woman speaks about the devastating impact that cancer has had on her family. Another commenter laughs at the idea of an 18-year-old giving her advice (point of order: Fernanda is 20). Another says what everyone is thinking: that describing her experience as “hell” sounds a little over-the-top.
Fernanda replied to some
After one tried to call her out on doling out sage wisdom, Fernanda replied: “You don’t know me; You only know what I allow you to know.” True enough. Unlike some of her castmates (Leida, Larissa), Fernanda’s life is not an open book.
And the hits kept coming
Again and again, Fernanda was reminded that some people’s lives are so much worse than hers, and that experiencing a breakup is bad, but not on a scale where people are going to chime in if she’s feeling sorry for herself.
More hate, but some support
Here, a follower accuses Fernanda of having been after a Green Card — which Jonathan has made very clear was never Fernanda’s focus. You’ll note that she does still have some support from people telling her to ignore the haters.
Here is Fernanda’s brand new caption
She deactivated all comments on the photo, and now her caption has replaced “hell” with “a lot.” That is much less likely to strike a nerve with people, and no longer looks like a criticism of Jonathan.
Fernanda didn’t want to hear it

No more comments under the post silences the critics, trolls, and supporters alike. it might also discourage people from pilingo n the hate in the future.
But did she really go through “hell?”
To be clear, unlike more than one of the other relationships on Season 6, there have been no accusations that either Jonathan or Fernanda were violent or in any other way abusive.
But there’s more than one kind of “hell”

Some people are put through hell through psychological manipulation, controlling behavior, or even by rampant cheating. There have also been no accusations of any of that from the couple.
Why is Fernanda so unhappy?

Well, some time in the second half of December, she and Jonathan got into an argument. Jonathan says that she wasn’t satisfied with life in his town and wanted to do modeling work in a city.
Their happiness was shattered
According to Jonathan, Fernanda said some things during that argument that he believed could never be taken back or unsaid. So he spent the holidays with his family in Chicago.
Fernanda did apologize

Fernanda apparently tried to apologize to Jonathan, but he wouldn’t let her take back her words.
Why wouldn’t he accept the apology?
Jonathan felt that she had pushed things too far. He couldn’t look at his wife the same way again.
That was it for their marriage

In January, Jonathan revealed that the two of them had not spoken since December 22, 2018.
Fernanda implied Jonathan was disloyal
To be clear, she has never alleged that he cheated. In fact, for the most part, she has avoided saying how their relationship fell apart. But she did imply that, by giving up on their relationship after that argument, Jonathan had broken his marriage vows.
She also implied something else …
Fernanda has suggested that Jonathan is not telling fans the whole story. Maybe there’s an element to their fight, or whatever led up to it, that no one even suspects.
Could that be the “hell” to which Fernanda refers?
The thing is … if she won’t step up and share it, fans don’t know why she’s so unhappy. No one will know why she’s writing about being tormented. Her followers read her posts, not her mind.
There’s one final possibility that could explain the “hell”

What if something was lost in translation? Fernanda has certainly heard the phrase “been through hell” before, but sometimes nuance of expressions and idioms are totally lost when translated. Perhaps she rephrased because she understood her error only after the backlash. Something to consider.
Is that it?
Maybe the controversy will lead Fernanda to explain, or prompt Jonathan to speak out again. Maybe the breakup is too painful to relive in detail. Or maybe they’re saving their words for a 90 Day Fiance special. (Fingers crossed, folks)
