The 2016 Emmy Award nominations are in.
And while we couldn’t be more excited that The Americans is finally being shown the love it deserves, we do have a few complaints to file.
The following shows and stars totally deserved to make the Emmy cut, don’t you think?!?
Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory
Bialik for Lead Actress in a Comedy. She grounds a sitcom in a seriousness than is often needed. To whom would we give the boot? Amy Schumer from Inside Amy Schumer … only because we don’t believe sketch comedy stars should be nominated. They aren’t playing a character, it’s a totally different kind of acting!
Eva Green, Penny Dreadful
We dare you to find a more harrowing performance from the last decade. Green, simply put, made this Showtime drama. We’d have chosen her over Robin Wright from House of Cards. That show is so played out.
Uzo Aduba, Orange Is the New Black
Aduba won an Emmy last year. We’d have included her this year in the Drama category (did you watch the last few episodes of Season 4?!?) and given Maggie Smith the axe. Seriously, who isn’t over Downton Abbey at this point?!?
Paul Giamatti, Billions
Yes, he chewed some scenery… but he made a delicious meal out of it! We would have been happier to see him land in the Lead Actor category over Liev Schreiber.
Rachel Bloom, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
The CW deserves some Emmy love! Bloom gave a far more interested and nuanced performance than Lily Tomlin in Grace and Frankie.
Constance Wu, Fresh Off the Boat
We’re gonna cheat here. We’d have included Wu as a Supporting Actress and chosen her over Kate McKinnon of SNL.
Orange Is the New Black
This was the strongest season of a great show. And the most dramatic closing few episodes of any show that aired a season last year. Is it too late to bump House of Cards for it??
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee
No one cares much about the Variety Shiw category. And we love Jerry Seinfeld. But what Bee has done on her debut season is far more impressive than Seinfeld sitting around and drinkign coffee with other comedians.
Christian Slater, Mr. Robot
Christian Slater won Golden Globe for his role in Mr. Robot. He didn’t even get a nomination here. Sorry, Kit Harrington, but your role as Jon Snow doesn’t require much emotion. You’d be out for Slater if we had made the call.
Catastrophe
We’re gonna come out and say it: Modern Family is no longer funny. Catastrophe should have earned a spot among the best comedies.
