Don Lemon aimed to make a point about racism on Monday night.

With debate raging on over whether or not South Carolina ought to take down the Confederate Flag from its State Building,  Lemon held up the controversial flag on air and asked:

"Does this offend you?"

From there, Lemon picked up a sign with the N-Word printed boldly (and uncensored) in all capital letters and asked again:

"Does this offend you? This word?"

Lemon’s goal was to point out that people were "shocked" when Barack Obama recently dropped the N-Word on the "WTF With Marc Maron" podcast… yet they have no problem with a symbol of the Civil War flying high over a state’s capitol building.

"I’ve always advocated the use of that word in context, especially if you’re reporting on it in journalism," Lemon said. "It’s important for people to hear it when it has impact on a society."

The CNN anchor has become known for doing strange and headline-grabbing things on air.

Remember when he asked a Bill Cosby accuser why she didn’t bite down on the comedian’s penis?
