As was hinted in the 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? sneak peeks that we shared last week, this season is more than a little bonkers.
With six returning couples, viewers are treated to the fallout from old drama, a taste of new and familiar drama, and to brand new feuds.
The season premiere dove right into the fights, feuds, and fears — and multiple pregnancies.
Fmaily members get involved in multiple disagreements, which only ever seems to make situations even more stressful.
And Larissa, Colt, and Debbie are practically at each other’s throats in that wildly toxic household.
Take a look:
We have to start with these two
Despite some stiff competition, Larissa and Colt took center stage because they are almost too dramatic to function.
This particular fight is because of how a previous fight ended …
Remember months ago when we reported that Larissa had flushed her wedding ring down the toilet in a fit of frustration with Coltee? Yeah, that happened. And 90 Day Fiance’s cameras were there to capture the aftermath as the couple tells Debbie.
Debbie is apoplectic
Larissa ends up speaking about how much she does around the house while Colt is at work — keep in mind that a K-1 visa and even a spousal visa is not the same as a Green Card and cannot be used for employment. Which means that Larissa spends most of each day home alone with Debbie and the cats.
Larissa did seem a little anxious about it
It’s difficult to say if this was from embarrassment, but she smiled nervously while defending her overly dramatic actions. There just isn’t a good reason to flush a ring down a toilet.
And Debbie is surprisingly right
She says that they’re no good for each other, and she hit the nail on the head. We don’t always agree with her, but in this moment, all fans — plus Colt and Larissa themselves — can agree.
Larissa lays the blame at Deb’s feet
She says that Deb is deliberately driving a wedge between the couple because she wants Coltee all for herself.
Then it devolves into Larissa vs Debbie
At one point, Debbie screeches “you need to be nice to me!” after Larissa accuses her of having watched cartoons all day. (And side note: why would that be a problem? Larissa and Debbie putting the other down only seems to benefit Colt)
Moving on … to Ashley and Jay
Ashley Martson and Jay Smith are, as of the premiere, still grappling with Jay’s cheating scandal. In case it slipped your mind after all of the Larissa drama since then, Jay downloaded Tinder, starting chatting with girls, and was FaceTiming one when Ashley caught him. All of this went down in the few days after their wedding. Mega yikes.
Jay is trying to earn back Ashley’s trust
“I’m trying to show you that I’ve changed,” he tells her during a very emotional car ride.
Ashley remains understandably annoyed
Is she a little argumentative? Yes. But under the circumstances, and particularly given that they’re reality stars on camera, you can understand why she keeps harping on this contentious issue. It’s something that they need to work through if they want their marriage to survive (lol).
Jay insists that it’s just a misunderstanding
“Listen!” Jay instructs Ashley during the car ride. “I wasn’t gonna hook up with no one. I wasn’t gonna f–k no one. I didn’t wanna be in a relationship with no f–king one! And that’s it.” Ashley responds, asking why in the world he was on Tinder, then. Tinder, for the record, is for any or all three of those things.
Things aren’t going well
“We’re just not in a good place,” Ashley admits. Notably, this footage of Jay and Ashley appears to have been filmed in or around September or October of 2018. Compared to how things are between the two of them now, their relationship is flawless.
Their heated argument ends very dramatically
Ashley ends up putting Jay out of the car. This sort of thing makes for great television, but please avoid doing this in real life unless you are in physical danger.
Chantel and Pedro
These two and their feuding families are getting their own spinoff series, The Family Chantel. But on the Happily Ever After? premiere, they were looking for a way to avoid all of that.
In case you managed to forget …
Pedro got into a physical brawl with more or less Chantel’s entire family. Maybe River shouldn’t have spoken to him confrontationally, maybe Chantel shouldn’t have repeated Nicole’s words, maybe Nicole should have been nicer — but a physical fight is alarming. It was so serious that producers rushed into the melee to break things up.
By the way, that’s not happening again
Chantel’s mother has now made it very clear that she is prepared to defend her family from any aggressor … with a taser that she has named “Shocky.” (Side note: Chantel’s mom appears to love being on TV more than life itself, which is part of why she’s so entertaining)
Obviously, Chantel was looking to escape
She and Pedro were house-hunting … and considering a home in another city so that they could avoid the family feuds and finally get their Happily Ever After.
But the problem was a little closer to home
They found themselves arguing even while looking for new homes, which helped them to realize that not ALL of their problems are the fault of either family. They have their own issues to work out.
Is their marriage doomed?
They both start to wonder that. Chantel isn’t sure if she is ready to bring children into a family that is torn apart like theirs, and Pedro misinterprets her words as saying that she doesn’t want to have his kids because she doesn’t love him. It’s a mess.
Andrei Castravet and Elizabeth Potthast
These two familiar faces are continuing to face some very familiar problems — Andrei’s deeply patriarchal cultural background and Elizabeth’s family.
A quick note on these two
In January of 2019, they welcome the birth of their first child, a precious baby girl! But this is filmed months earlier.
At this point, they face different issues
Elizabeth is pregnant and the couple has moved into a new home. The big issues at the moment are that Andrei still doesn’t have a full-time job and that he’s still not getting along with her sisters.
Elizabeth tries to be a mediator
She tries to set some boundaries with her sisters, particularly when it comes to their involvement after she gives birth.
It doesn’t go over well
They accuse Andrei — who Elizabeth herself admits is from a culture where wives are expected to defer to their husbands — of being too controlling.
Now onto Paola and Russ Mayfield
This familiar couple went through so much — including a miscarriage — before Pao’s pregnancy last summer. She gave birth to baby Axel on January 1 of 2019, but when this was filmed, she’s still pregnant.
She’s planning a baby shower
And Russ wants to go all the way back to Oklahoma for the baby shower. The pregnancy may be new, but this issue is not.
Pao wants to stay in Miami
She actually has friends who live in Miami and she doesn’t feel comically out of place there. She would feel very differently in Oklahoma.
The topic brings up a lot of emotions
The pregnant Paola ends up breaking down a little and expressing: “I just want to feel accepted, that’s all.” That is not unreasonable, folks.
Fans are rooting for these two (these three, now!)
It’s hard to say what the best solution is. Russ can’t move his entire family to Miami, but even if she can withstand Florida, it doesn’t seem likely that Pao is going to magically start being happy in Oklahoma. Some fans have suggested that they just move to another metropolitan area where she can work, but that doesn’t really solve Russ’ problem … and would still take Pao away from her friends.
Finally, Nicole and Azan
Plenty of people are happy to support Nicole and Azan’s love journey, but not all viewers can understand why these two are STILL in a long-distance relationship. And Nicole’s family is in the same boat.
Nicole’s big lie was exposed
As we reported last week, the alleged shop that Azan was going to open in Morocco with financial backing from Nicole? It’s a complete fabrication. She confessed to the producers that there is no shop.
And it gets worse
She continues to send Azan money, which worries her family. Nicole is not rich, folks. A few Instagram ads and some savings built up from her time working at Starbucks do not make her a venture capitalist who can just yeet money across the Atlantic on a whim.
Nicole still wants to move
She wants to head over to Morocco with her daughter … but Azan keeps delaying their wedding
Nicole’s family worries, and it’s stressing her tf out
“I’ve been waiting so long to finally be his wife,” she expresses, which is both romantic and a little sad.
