It’s that time of the year again.
Namely, the end.
With 2017 just about over, editors at The Hollywood Gossip are finally prepared to reveal our 10th annual Celebrity of the Year.
But not without a lot of build-up and drama first. Let’s do this down below!
A Tradition Unlike Any Other
Forget The Masters. THG running down our top stars of a certain calendar year has been a long-anticipated and much-balleyhooed tradition since we started doing it in 2007.
And Who Was the Winner Way Back Then?
It was an easy call, considering Britney Spears started the year by shaving her head and ended it by being at the center of one pregnancy rumors after another.
Who Else Has Taken Home the Honor?
To name a few: Kim Kardashian, the entire cast of New Moon, Justin Bieber and Kristen Stewart.
Who Won It Last Year?
Taylor Swift. Hard to believe, right? Considering how quiet she’s been in 2017? But the singer had to take a long break after all that went down a year ago.
Who are the Contenders This Year?
Many think 2017 was the worst year in the history of mankind, largely because of the person sitting in the White House. So we need to start there…
But This Ain’t Happening
Granted, Donald Trump likely had a bigger impact on 2017 than anyone else out there, but we refuse to give him any sort of distinction. We won’t reward the President with our top honor.
Who Else Then?
The usual contenders were pretty quiet in 2017. Bieber didn’t release an album and neither did Swift. Kim Kardashian, moreover, dared to stay under the radar and basically be a mother.
Kylie Jenner?
Between her cosmetics company blowing up and her womb getting a baby in it, there’s no doubt Kylie was the most discussed member of her family. But she’s barely said a word since the pregnancy news hit. You can’t win this prize by being quiet for months.
The #MeToo Movement?
Easily the most influential thing to happen in Hollywood this year, as courageous women around the country brought down such predators as Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer. But Time Magazine already went this route. We can’t copy them.
Beyonce?
She gave birth to twins and…well… she’s Beyonce. So she’s always a viable option. Again, though, she’s done and said very little in the back half of the year.
Gal Gadot?
Nope, sorry, we’re just gonna come out and say it: Wonder Woman was overrated.
Okay. So Who Is It Then?
We have chosen someone who managed to go from the D-List (at best) to the very top of the A-List. This isn’t easy to accomplish in a matter of one year, especially when she didn’t release any albums, win any awards or star in any blockbuster movies.
Congratulations… Meghan Markle!!!!!
Be honest: Had you even heard of the actress when 2017 opened? Did you even know there was a show on USA Network called Suits? By winning Prince Harry’s heart, however, Markle became as talked-about as nearly any woman on the planet by the time the year ended. Pretty amazing.
She Has It All
The successful career. The huge ring. The gorgeous fiance. The lavish wedding on tap. A major platform for her charitable endeavors. Markle clearly won 2017.
But Who Will Win 2018?
Democrats across every Congressional and Senate race, we hope. But as far as Celebrity of the Year goes? We’ll need to keep a close eye on the gossip scene to find out!
