KFC would like to make something abundantly clear:
Fried rat is never on its menu.
Earlier this week, a restaurant patron named Devorise Dixon posted a video (below) that purported to show a crispy piece of meat with a tail.
He alleged it depicted a rat that he described as “nasty, hard and rubbery.”
But KFC has now issued a statement that calls Dixon out as a prankster at best and a liar at worst.
"A customer has made a serious claim against KFC and refuses to cooperate in the investigation," the corporation writes, adding in more detail:
"The images the customer originally posted do not include this second angle because it clearly shows it’s a piece of hand-breaded white meat chicken.
"Based on this, and the fact that he refuses to allow anyone to see the product, we are left to believe that he intended to deceive the public with this hoax and we are considering all options."
Dixon – who wrote online that his meal sent “DEEP CHILLS THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE BODY IM STILL FEELING SICK CANT EVEN EAT!!!” – also claims he told the manager at his local KFC about the incident.
He says the manager confirmed it was a rat.
"After the post from this consumer surfaced, KFC made various attempts to contact him, but he refused to talk to us directly or through an attorney," concludes the KFC statement.
"We extended the opportunity to have an independent lab evaluate the product at our own expense, but the customer refused to provide the product in question."
Fair enough.
But we’re still waiting for an apology for the KFC Double Down Dog.
