How do we know Justin Bieber is looking to get his life back on track and make amends to all he let down over the past year or so?

Mostly because he has told us on numerous occasions of late, publicly apologizing for a string of really bad behavior.

But Bieber is also going back to his roots, covering the latest issue of Seventeen in a clear appeal to his young fan base.

Of past decisions that included an arrest for drunk driving, the egging of his neighbor’s house and drunken urination in a restaurant mop bucket, Bieber tells the publication:

"I was rebelling a little bit. I was getting cockier and cockier. I didn’t have people to check me."

Bieber has made comments like this often since the calendar flipped to 2015.

In honor of Mother’s Day, for example, he paid tribute to Pattie Mallette and admitted he would have had an even "longer stupid phase" if not for this parent.

"I looked back and I was disappointed in myself," Justin tells Seventeen. "You have to own up to the mistakes. You have to say, ‘I’m sorry if I’ve let you down."

It shouldn’t be very difficult for Bieber to win back the fans he lost, especially because most loyal supporters never even left his figurative side.

"I always want to be honest and let people know that those mistakes aren’t who I am," he concludes. "Who I am is someone who really cares about people."

Not the man behind these scandals, Bieber would say. Let’s hope time proves him right.
