Ellen Albertini Dow has passed away at 101. Dow is best known for her decades of work as an in-demand character actress.

She may be most recognized for her turn as the "Rapping Granny" in the 1998 Adam Sandler film The Wedding Singer.

In addition to that memorable performance (which many consider to be the film’s high point) Dow had over 100 film and television credits to her name.

Most of Dow’s recent work came in the form of cameos on beloved television series such as Seinfeld, Family Guy, Scrubs and Six Feet Under.

In 2013, she appeared on the Fox sitcom New Girl at the age of 99!

Born in rural Pennsylvania one year before the outbreak of World War I, Dow seemed to know she was destined for great things from an early age.

A student of dance and piano from the age of 5, she left home while still in her teens in order to pursue an education at Cornell.

After receiving two degrees from that esteemed university, Dow headed to New York City to work on Broadway.

She directed and choreographed performances at Carnegie hall and became known as one of the city’s most revered acting coaches long before making her own film debut in American Drive-In in 1985.
