The Good Wife dealt with marriage in two ways this week:
- The state of Alicia and Peter’s union.
- The issue of gay marriage.
On The Good Wife Season 6 Episode 18, the hacker released five years’ worth of Alicia’s emails to a reporter.
She, in turn, was all set to do a hit piece on Alicia, focusing on her affair with Will and alerting the world to their racy exchanges.
But Peter actually stepped in to help solve the problem (at first), meeting with Alicia and sharing what he dubbed a "mature" bottle of red wine as the estranged spouses opened up about their failed union.
They’re in a pretty good place now and it was determined that they would get out in front of this damning story.
Peter gave an interview to the reporter in order to delay the story’s release, while Alicia spoke to a different reporter in order to control the story and claim she only flirted with Will. There was no affair.
In the end, however, this only served to piss off the original reporter, who delivered a report in which she alleged voter fraud against Alicia and her campaign.
We have no idea if there’s any evidence to back this up. But, as Eli said to close the hour, it spells "trouble" for everyone.
Elsewhere:
- You should watch The Good Wife online for an awesome debate on gay marriage, religious tolerance and anti-discrimination legislation.
- Diane was asked by Oliver Platt’s billionaire conservative to argue a mock trial about whether or not a wedding planner could deny service to a gay couple, as The Good Wife essentially tackled the new Indiana law head on.
- She ended up winning this fake case, but Platt’s RD said he was still going to back a real-life appeal by a sued wedding planner because he admires folks who stand by their beliefs (as opposed to recent Democratic politicians, he noted).
- Finally, Wiley the private investigator came back… and determined that Kalinda messed with the meta data in Cary’s case, which could get Diane in serious trouble.
- We’ll see how this plays out on The Good Wife Season 6 Episode 19, but he strongly suggested that Kalinda come clean.
