The secret is out. The rumor is a reality. The shock is staring to wear off.
The Bruce Jenner sex change really is happening.
At some point this spring, Jenner will open up about his decision to become a woman in an interview with Diane Sawyer; and at some point it will be discussed on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 10.
But why now? What has prompted Jenner to take this drastic step in his life?
“He had enough of trying to fool himself and others,” an insider tells People, adding that Jenner has kept this secret for decades and:
“Once he realized he was done taking a backseat in his own life, he knew it was time to be honest with himself.”
Over the past several months, there’s been a growing acceptance of transgender people around the country, with actress Laverne Cox becoming the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of Time magazine and with Transparent winning best series at the 2015 Golden Globes.
The insider says these positive changes definitely helped influence Jenner’s decision to come out to the world.
“He suffered from feeling a lot of shame about this for a lot of years,” says the source, explaining that this nationwide approval has “lifted a tremendous burden off him in terms of feeling alone.”
People concludes that there’s been considerable hurt on both the Kardashian and Jenner sides regarding Bruce’s impending sex change, but nothing has changed the important bottom line:
His kids still adore him.
“He seems happy that he can live his life the way he feels he’s intended to,” says the family insider. “His kids all love him very much and would do anything for him.”
