Yesterday, Us Weekly published what it claimed was an interview in which Kendall Jenner spoke about Bruce Jenner’s “transition” for the first time.
It was a big deal, as previous reports indicated that the family was divided over Bruce’s sex change. The Us interview made Kendall the first member of her family to publicly acknowledge the transition, and she did so in a loving, supportive fashion.
The problem is, according to Kendall, the entire conversation was completely made up.
“How is it legal for someone to ‘quote’ someone and publish it if in fact you never said what was quoted?” Kendall tweeted yesterday.
“Shame on Us Weekly for making up quotes. I never said those things. I never spoke them.”
Many had already pointed out that Kendall’s “quote” did not sound like something the 19-year-old model would say.
It’s not that anyone doubts that Kendall supports her father, it’s just that anyone who’s watched Keeping Up With the Kardashians knows that the Kendall doesn’t frequently use phrases like “now that he’s changing shoes, so to speak.”
It would be one thing if the fabricated quote was taken from a written statement, but the tabloid claims it’s from an impromptu interview at the Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber.
Add to that the fact that there’s no real reason for Kendall to deny making such a statement (It doesn’t contain anything foolish or scandalous, and it actually earned her plenty of praise online.), and you’ve got sufficient evidence to suggest that either Us made this one up, or there’s a Kendall Jenner look-alike out there trying to sabotage her career with eloquent, compassionate insights.
