We kicked off The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 14 with Gabriel peeved over a present of strawberries left for him in his quasi Alexandria chapel, while Rick then discovered Jessie’s owl sculpture had been ransacked.
Meanwhile, Noah told Reg he wants to learn construction.
Hmm… is it ever a good sign on this show when someone starts planning for his or her future?
Despite an aversion to combat, Eugene was on a mission to find micro inverters to fix the power grid, tagging along with Aiden, Glenn, Nicholas, Noah and Tara.
He actually discovered the electronic thingies in a warehouse – and then Aiden shot at a walker donning body armor. And shot at him again. And again and again.
Glenn screamed at him to stop, but it was too late: Aiden nailed the grenade that the zombie had on and ended up being impaled in the blast.
Eugene vowed he could protect Tara while the others went to try and save Aiden, who was still sort of alive.
Back in town, Abraham was excited to bean a few walkers when things went awry near a construction site, while Pete stopped by Rick’s place.
The tension here was apparent, despite Pete suggestion Rick bring his kids in for a check up. They shook hands after Pete said they ought to be friends, but we don’t see these two having coffee together any time soon.
At the warehouse of doom, Eugene was scared… but pushing through it.
He carried Tara to safety while shooting walkers (in all the wrong body parts). He was more successful than Gleen, though, who failed to save Aiden.
Before being eaten in one of the drama’s grosser deaths, Aiden confessed that the crew members they’d previously lost had NOT been the ones who’d panicked in the field; he and Nicholas had been.
Man. Good riddance, Aiden.
After saving co-worker Francine, Abraham learned that the Alexandria way is to leave anyone who’s in trouble for dead.
Impressed by Abraham’s heroism, Tobin told Deanna to place him in charge of the construction crew.
Down the block, Sam returned to Carol, chocolate in hand along with an admission: he breaks things when he gets upset. Like an owl sculpture, we assume. He also asked for a gun.
Later, following a futile visit to Pete and Jessie’s place, Carol informed Rick that she’d figured out the doctor was hitting his wife and maybe his younger son as well.
“There’s only one way it can go,” she said. “You’re gonna have to kill him.”
It’s a chilling scene. Go watch The Walking Dead online to relive it.
We end at the warehouse: Glenn, Noah and Nicholas are trapped by walkers in a revolving door. Eugene, though, actually rides to the rescue, honking and drawing most of them away.
HOWEVER, because Nicholas would not trust Glenn’s plan to get them all out safely, he escaped… and Noah was devoured even more horrifically than Aiden had been.
At the getaway van, Nicholas attempted to strong-arm Eugene into busting out without Glenn and Noah, only for Glenn to catch up with the creep and gave him the pounding he deserves.
As the hour came to an end, Gabriel appeared up at Deanna’s and, with Maggie eavesdropping, insisted that Rick and his survivors were wolves in sheep’s clothing.
“The day will come when… they will destroy everything you have here," he warned.
