Remember when American Idol was the hottest show in television?
The series lost that distinction awhile ago, but another Fox program came along a few weeks ago and picked it up.
Empire is the biggest thing network TV has seen in ages, with ratings and buzz soaring by the week.
And while you can watch Empire online to see what all the fuss is about, you can also click Play on the following video to see Jussie Smollett and Bryshere "Yazz" Gray performing a song from the smash drama on Idol Thursday evening:
Jussie Smollett, of course, also made news a few days ago when he came out as gay in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
The track featured above, meanwhile, is included on the just-released Empire Season 1 soundtrack, which is in a tight race with Madonna’s "Rebel Heart" for the number-one spot on the Billboard 200.
In addition to singles from Smollett and Gray, the soundtrack features music from cast members Terrence Howard and Serayah McNeill, as well as guest stars Hudson, Courtney Love, Rita Ora and Mary J. Blige.
