It was one of the most memorable aspects of the 2015 Academy Awards:
Lady Gaga took to the Dolby Theatre stage in Los Angeles last night and sang a medley of tracks in honor of The Sound of Music on that iconic film’s 50th anniversary.
Star Julie Andrews referred to the performance as "wonderful," while Fox 8 morning show host Kristi Capel agreed that the artist has an amazing voice.
It’s just difficult to sometimes appreciate it due due to the singer’s "jigaboo" music and attire. Wait.. her what?!? Capel then repeated the word in case viewers missed it the first time…
Seemingly unaware that this is a racist term sometimes used by Caucasians to disparage African-Americans, Capel quickly took to Twitter and explained what happened, issuing a mea culpa.
"I do apologize if I offended you," she wrote to an angry Internet user. “I didn’t know the meaning behind it or that it was even a word. Thank you for watching.”
We’re pretty sure we believe Capel. We don’t think she’s racist.
But she should probably stick in the future to only using words that she knows to be, you know, actual words.
And, hey, it could have been worse: she could have made a Green Card joke about a really talented Mexican director.
