It’s been over five years since Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin appeared on reality TV together, and according to the latter, there’s a reason for that.

“I don’t have a relationship with Jon anymore,” she said of her ex-husband. “I give the kids… some of the kids visit and some don’t and I keep the peace.”

“That’s what I’ve always done. It’s best for the kids.”

Doesn’t sound like things are too amicable – or that there’s any love lost – between the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 co-stars. No relationship is probably best.

“I wish that things were better for the kids,” she said.

“It’s very clear by now that I’m just trying to preserve what relationship he has with them. I do think it’s best for them, but, you know, divorce is hard, period.”

“It’s really difficult,” she adds in an obvious shot at her former spouse of 10 years, “when one parent is in the sabotaging mode. That’s been difficult.”

Kate, 39, dished on her dating life and the state of her family while promoting Celebrity Apprentice at a Television Critics Association panel discussion.

Despite rumors suggesting she is dating Jeff Prescott, Kate said she isn’t actively looking for a partner, at least in the sense of making it a priority.

“I would love to date, but I don’t have time,” she said of reports that Prescott is dating Kate Gosselin. “I don’t really have time to think about [what I want in a man].”

“Our obvious issue [is] we’re a family people have heard of. It’s that publicity piece. There’s eight kids [and] it’s really loud and stressful in my house.”

“I mean, anybody that can kind of work through all that, you know,” she adds of her unique situation, “that’s a lot of gates there they gotta get through.”

Sounds like the kids want to open the gates, however.

“They are [asking] more and more,” Gosselin said of her expansive brood. “There’s kind of a man presence definitely missing this many years later.”

“But I’m never gonna be that mom that is going to make the mistake of bringing anybody home. I don’t have time to be out there searching for someone.”

“I want to do it right and I would love for them to have that male role model,” she says, as challenging as it might be to find that person. “It is lacking.”

Not unlike Jon Gosselin’s DJ career.
