Gotham took an extended winter hiatus… returned with its worst episode to date… and then took another week off.
So Gotham Season 1 Episode 12 really needed to deliver the goods in order to keep our attention going forward. And the installment actually proved to be a solid bounce back for the Fox drama.
It centered on Jim promising Commissioner Loeb that he’d track down Arkham escapee Jack Gruber (aka The Electrocutioner) within 24 hours. He just needed his detective badge back in order to do so.
Deducing that this villain had an issue with Don Maroni, a deduction confirmed after one of Gruber’s stooges zapped one of Maroni’s henchmen, Jim convinced Maroni to sit tight at the GCDP as “bait.”
The plan worked; The Electrocutioner showed up; and Jim knocked him out after donning rubber that kept him safe and then using a splash of coffee to neuter the big bad.
When you watch Gotham online (via the above video), you’ll also note the following developments:
- Edward offered occupational crush Kristen Kringle a riddle that came in the form of a cupcake… with a bullet inside. She brushed him off as “weird” and Edward reacted very poorly to that insult.
- Jim and Dr. Thompkins had their first kiss.
- Penguin told Falcon that Fish had planted Liza in his life, prompting Falcone to choke out his new friend and then pay a visit to his old friend.
- He chided Fish for using the memory of his “sainted mother” against him – and then Falcone took Fish and Butch hostage.
And, just like that, the mob storyline actually got interesting!
What did everyone else think of this episode? Did it make up for the previous lackluster one? Do you want to see more of Jim and Thompkins? Do you want to see Jim with Barbara?
Or do you not care one iota about Jim’s personal life?
