Damon and Elena were all about Operation Miss Cuddles on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 9, using the Ascendant Damon compelled Alaric to steal, along with Liv’s spell, to travel back to 1994.
But were they able to rescue Bonnie from old school Mystic Falls on the penultimate installment of 2014?
In a word? No.
Damon and Elena initially bonded during time-traveling adventure, getting on the phone with Bonnie at one point, who called on her way back from Oregon.
They said they’d be there waiting to take her home once she completed her road trip, leading to some pancakes and some champagne for the former couple as they simply hung out and killed time until Bonnie’s arrival.
Things grew a bit tense after Elena learned about Damon’s Alaric compulsion, however.
She accused him of only caring about himself, which led Damon to explain just how Bonnie sort of saved him and kept his hope alive during their time in 1994 together.
This helped changed Elena’s mind, but the two then had something else to worry about:
Liv brought them back early because her life was in danger. Kai was back in the present day and had nearly killed his sister until Tyler swooped in and knocked him out.
So Liv had to rush back to Mystic Falls (because one cannot use one’s powers there) to remain safe, pulling Damon and Elena back in the process. Before they could be there to take Bonnie with them.
She arrived home all excited, saw her friends were gone and broke down on the front porch. Very sad stuff.
ELSEWHERE:
- Alaric learned Damon compelled him to steal the Ascendant and punched his friend twice in the face in response.
- Stefan called out Sarah Salvatore as a liar because he knows the real Sarah Salvatore was adopted after birth and is a student at Duke.
- Turns out, this imposter was a girl named Monique who met Sarah at sleep away camp and wanted a fresh start and simply tried to pass herself off as Sarah.
- Stefan compelled all memories of Sarah from Monique… only for Enzo to show with Matt and demand some answers. When Stefan refused to provide them, wanting to keep Sarah’s existence a secret, Enzo snapped Monique’s neck.
- This made Matt angry (at Enzo, but also at Stefan for being all secretive) and he later asked Jeremy to be a hunter again. So he could help Matt kill Enzo.
- Finally, as you’ll see when you watch The Vampire Diaries online, we concluded the hour with Kai saying he wants to save Liv’s life and asking Matt to make a "deal with the Devil."
