A few holiday blues were definitely sang on Nashville Season 3 Episode 9.
We’ll begin with Luke and Rayna who decided to tape a Christmas special to raise funs for Toys for Tots and who also figured this would boost album sales.
Deacon popped over to give Maddie her lesson, making things nice and awkward for Luke… but not as awkward as they’d be for Deacon the next day after he got his hands on Rayna’s Rolling Stone interview.
Despite Rayana trying to explain that she spilled all in order to protect Maddie, Deacon was hearing none of it. (“You have him us, what we had,” he fumed.)
Luke doesn’t get it. Why can’t Rayna just let all this Deacon/Rolling Stone drama go? But he still says she can go make amends, which the country queen attempts to do by showing up at Deacon’s house.
Deacon has calmed down now because Rayna did tell the magazine the truth. And he goes ahead and does the same: “I love you. That’s it. It’s easy.”
But Rayna breaks his heart, says she’s getting married in two weeks and then goes home to sing “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with Luke. Though we end this storyline with her standing along in a festive sweater, looking anything but festive.
ELSEWHERE, Sadie and Gunnar are songwriting together. The former mentions that she wants a new producer and the latter recommends Avery. Would Juliette be okay with this?
It doesn’t appear to so first, but she eventually smooths things over and Avery scores the job. He thinks it’s cute they were jealous. And we wish they would just kiss.
When you watch Nashville online, you’ll also see Will and Layla enjoy the outdoor music festival because no one knows they’re reality stars there.
Will gets drunk, though, and tries to kiss a bartender who shoots him down; while Layla impressed Jeff Fordham with her talent… and eds up sleeping with him.
Finally, Sadie’s manager wants to get the ZAG band on the road, but Gunnar doesn’t want to be away from Micah.
Z gets pissed and leaves for Los Angeles. Terry’s performance receives a huge ovation, but he still drinks and screams at Scarlett for pushing him do do something she’s too scared to do herself.
She cries about it, but then volunteers to sing Zoe’s parts during the SAG performance that night. And it’s outstanding.
NOTE: Nashville Season 3 Episode 10 ("First to Have a Second Chance") will air on Wednesday, December 10 on ABC.
