In August of 2013, we reported on a heroic Pit Bull who lost his leg after defending his family against a burglar.
Now comes a similar story, though one with an even sadder outcome.
The following video tells the story of a German Shepherd named Noah. On November 28, he was riding in a Chevy Suburban with his owners, three kids and their mother.
For reasons that remain unclear at this point – NBC News claims they were bystanders in an argument between two people outside a strip mall – the car was suddenly fired at a number of times.
But witnesses say the four human passengers were not hit by any bullets… because Noah jumped in front of the gunfire.
As you can see in the surveillance footage above, Noah limped behind a nearby building and, tragically, passed away between two fences.
"The dog took the bullet for the kids so the kids would be safe," a witness told NBC affiliate WXIA in Atlanta, while Police Sgt. Gregory Lyon added:
"It’s a really sad story for the whole family… Your heart just goes out to that poor dog."
And your hat also goes off to him. May Noah rest in peace.
