It was a return to beloved form on Supernatural Season 10 Episode 4.
Demon Dean is gone. The brothers are back in the Impala. And all is right in the world. Kind of. Sort of. Not really, we suppose.
We kick off with Sam and Dean sitting in fold-out chairs by the water, only a cooler of beer and some unspoken baggage between them. They’re wearing sunglasses and just relaxing.
But it doesn’t take long for the brothers to read about multiple murders and get back to their investigating/hunting ways.
With the hearts of victims missing, it’s clear werewolves have somehow been involved, as the guys follow a lead to a nearby barn. The finding there of a heartless chicken takes them to Kate, who appeared on Supernatural Season 8 as a college student stuck between two werewolves.
Remember? She killed one of them after she was turned and he killed her boyfriend? She then begged for her life in a video left for Sam and Dean, promising to only live on animals going forward?
The boys discuss whether they’re ready to be back on the job as they drive to confront Kate a motel. But they end up finding her sister instead and eventually meet up with Kate over coffee (and bear hearts).
Werewolf Barbie tells them she was remaining true to her word… until her sister, Tasha, got into a car accident. Kate turned her in order to save her and Tasha has been unable to resist killing humans.
Dean convinces Kate that there’s a werewolf cure the brothers are willing to give to both sisters. However, Sam knows that Dean is lying in order to get to Tasha in order to kill her.
Following a heart to heart in which Sam tells Dean he never has to thank him for all he did, the Winchesters and Kate end up at the cabin to find Tasha. But as soon as she’s handcuffed inside the car, she realizes there really is no cure.
Inside the cabin, Sam is about to shoot Tasha when he turns to see a gun pointed at Dean’s head. Tasha has apparently turned two guys (Travis and Brandon) and wants to include her sister in her pack.
Fortunately, Sam is able to kill the werewolf newbies, leaving Kate to deal with Tasha.
Aware now that her sister will never be able to stop, Kate go ahead and kills her.
Back in the Impala, the guys agree to let Kate go and wonder whether they re-entered the hunting world too soon. Probably, but Dean sums it up best with:
"I am just trying to do the right thing, man, because I’m so sick and tired of doing the wrong one."
