It’s been simmering forever, but the rivalry between Firehouse 51 and Firehouse 105 finally hit a boiling point on Chicago Fire Season 3 Episode 3.
Within the opening few moments, our heroes were out on a call when they spotted Lt. Welch’s truck racing to the scene as well. Because we know the first team to arrive is in charge Cruz hit the accelerator, only for Casey to talk him down.
Could this guy get any more perfect?!?
Just then… BAM! The other truck slams #81, flipping it over and leaving Mouch a bloody mess. (He ends up with a corneal abrasion and a pretty cool eye patch.)
Most members of Firehouse 51 are intact, however, though the same can’t be said for Firehouse 105. Its driver (Molina) is taken from the accident scene unconscious and with a broken leg.
Cruz is then placed in the undesirable spotlight because he can’t say for certain whether or not he blew a red light. He must answer some police questions and is in danger of a manslaughter charge of Molina doesn’t survive.
Cruz is torn up over the accident and it doesn’t help that Welch and his buddies are in no mood for an apology.
But Molina does end up pulling through, and exonerating Cruz at the same time. He admits that Welch gave him the go-ahead to beat Truck 81 to the scene… no matter what.
So much for us feeling anything but hate toward Welch, huh?
Mills, meanwhile, visits a a doctor and is diagnosed him with BPPV, a form a vertigo. This more or less crushes all hopes of him ever getting back on the team.
But Mills grows inspired to forge his own path after reconnecting with his grandfather, who has Stage 4 cancer. So when the chance arises for Mills to take over Dawson’s spot on the ambulance (now that she’s a firefighter) arises, he jumps all over it.
Elsewhere:
- Kelly Severide goes AWOL for 48 hours, unable to visit Molina in the hospital. He’s still mourning Shay. Hard.
- Chief Boden and Casey come up with a plan to make Dawson Firehouse 51’s new candidate. It will meanCasey and Dawson will have to postpone their wedding.
