While many felt as if the opening two installments of The Big Bang Theory Season 8 were lacking for laughs, no one can deny the many chuckles that emanated from last night’s half hour.
It centered on two main storylines:
- Howard was selected to throw the first pitch at a Los Angeles Angels game. That sentence alone is funny, isn’t it?
- Sheldon and Amy went on a double date with Leonard and Penny.
Howard’s concern that he’ll humiliate himself on the mound was certainly well warranted. There has been A LOT of evidence that this isn’t a young man born to play sports. (And, sorry, Sheldon, but Quidditch does not count).
Fortunately, Howard’s has a supporting wife and a best friend willing to help him practice his fastball pretty slow ball.
Gotta love both Howard’s dance prior to throwing his pitch, along with his reaction to just how long 60 feet is. And is 60 feet and 6 inches even!
So, how did he get out of this jam?
Via the Mars Rover prototype, of course, as the THG staff cheered right along with the crowd.
As much as we would have gone crazy at witnessing the Mars Rover actually deliver the ball across the dish, seeing it inch along the field as everyone booed with impatience was even more rewarding. Well done all around.
On the aforementioned double date, meanwhile, Sheldon believed his relationship with Amy was better than Leonard’s with Penny. The former has to be the absolute best at everything, leading to one of our favorite Big Bang Theory quotes of the evening:
"Is this when he says bazooka or something?" asked Penny.
The dinner was hilarious overall, with Sheldon stating the obvious about curly fries (clearly superior!) and Leonard and Penny both admitting they’re a little scared.
This was the Big Bang Theory we know and love! Safe to say, we didn’t miss any talk about Penny’s new pharmaceutical job and/r Sheldon changing fields. What did everyone else think?
