Rumors that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are headed for divorce have been circulating for several weeks now.
Portia completed a rehab stint back in May, and sources close to the couple have claimed that she sought treatment after being issued an ultimatum by Ellen.
De Rossi reportedly displayed violent tendencies while drunk, and after numerous fights (which Portia may have videotaped), Ellen reportedly got fed up and demanded that Portia quit drinking.
Now, it seems that Ellen’s behavior may have actually triggered Portia’s excessive boozing.
A friend of the couple’s tells In Touch that Ellen “had an affair with one of their mutual friends right before Ellen’s rehab stint in May.” The insider adds that Ellen’s infidelity prompted Portia to embark on a disastrous bender.
The couple had reportedly already been fighting frequently, but the source says the combination of Ellen’s cheating and Portia’s drinking “led to some of their ugliest blowups,” and nearly caused them to call it quits.
Ellen and Portia are said to be working on their relationship these days, but even though both seem determined to make things work, their future remains uncertain.
“Portia is having huge problems forgiving Ellen for betraying her,” says one friend. “They may never really find their way back to each other.”
