A Louisiana man rescued his missing cousin, Bethany Arceneaux, by kicking in the door of the abandoned house where she was being held and shooting her abductor.

Arceneaux, 29, was kidnapped by the father of her child late on November 6. A car belonging to Scott Thomas, her estranged ex, was found abandoned about a mile from the road. When police search crews turned up no results on Thursday, Areceneaux’s family organized their own search party.

Arceneaux’s cousin heard screams from inside an abandoned house and kicked in the door just in time to see his cousin being stabbed by Thomas. He shot and killed the man injuring his cousin.

The Lafayette Parrish police are calling the shooting justified, though the district attorney’s office plans to investigate further.

Arceneaux was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery.
