Wendy Williams made a startling and very candid admission this week.

The veteran talk show host told viewers that she is living in a sober house, opening up about all the ways she is trying to recover from a past of substance abuse.

"For some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house," Williams said on Tuesday, adding in further detail:

"When you see me come to work glammed up, right after the show I go across the street, I do my Pilates. I told you – two hours a day or [so], to take care of my body…

"I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in my past. I never went to a place to get the treatment. I don’t know how, except God was sitting on my shoulder and I just stopped."

Williams has rightfully been lauded for this admission.

But fans also have some understandable question in the wake of this news,

What drove Williams to seek the assistance of a sober living house?

Did she return to cocaine usage? How and when did she relapse?

“Wendy won’t give any specific details about what she actually relapsed on,” an insider has told In Touch, ruling out the aforementioned drug and adding:

“It wasn’t cocaine, but it was bad enough to land her in a sober house to get round the clock treatment.”

Even before Williams said all this on air, viewers were worried about her health.

Due to a thyroid condition, Williams was off the air for two months prior to returning a few weeks ago.

Add this In Touch insider of Wendy and what she has gone through:

“It’s been reported, and some of her friends and talk show staffers say Wendy was abusing alcohol and prescription pills and that it got way out of control.

"That’s why she checked into a sober home and has a sober coach with her 24/7.

"It’s serious, but she’s finally getting the help she needs.”

It’s worth noting that we’ve never been huge fans of Wendy Williams.

Far too often, she takes mean-spirited, speculative shots at celebrities just to garner attention and make some headlines.

But we need to give her props for being so honest about her struggles here and for seeking the help she appparently needs so badly.

Speaking to her audience on Tuesday about the "smelly boys" at the sober living facility who have become like "family," Williams said:

"They hog the TV and watch soccer, we talk and read and talk and read. and then I get bored with them. Doors are locked by 10 p.m. Lights out by 10 p.m.

"So I go to my room, and I stare at the ceiling, and I fall asleep to wake up and come back here to see you. So that is my truth."

We admire her for sharing it.
