Richard Dreyfuss would like everyone to know that he’s alive and well.
He would also like everyone to know that he is not related to Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

On Sunday night, Julia Louis-Dreyfus won the trophy for Lead Actress in a Comedy for the fifth year in a row.
(If you need to wonder why, stop what you are doing and go binge watch Veep. Trust us. Do it. Thank us later.)
But this acceptance speech was unlike past ones for the Seinfeld alum, for a very sad reason:
Her dad passed away on Friday, just two days prior to the event.
Toward the end of her speech, following a quip about the current political climate, Louis-Dreyfus referenced this tragic event, saying she was so glad her dad "liked" her because it was his opinion that mattered most.
Watch the conclusion of the star’s speech below:
Pretty powerful stuff, right?
Apparently, however, numerous Internet users believed 68-year old actor Richard Dreyfuss to be the actress’ father.
Twitter and other social media services lit up with tributes to the veteran actor. Which was very nice and everything.
Just wholly misguided.
In response, Dreyfuss jumped on Twitter to clear up the misperception, writing:
"I’m actually not Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ father. But I really appreciate all the concerned tweets."
The Oscar winner then appeared to launch into a brief rant, slamming the Emmys for never recognizing his impressive career in television, including The Education of Max Bickford and The Day Reagan Was Shot.
We can’t tell if he’s joking around or not.
"You know who else hasn’t won an Emmy? Me," he tweeted, adding:
"One of my favorite things to do is just pet my Academy Award. People think it’s weird. People have never petted their own Academy Award."

It would seem like an odd time to complain about his lack of a Emmy Award, right after acknowledging that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ father is dead.
"I’d like to dedicate this to my father, William Louis-Dreyfus, who passed away on Friday," said Louis-Dreyfus on stage.
"I’m so glad that he liked Veep, because his opinion was the one that really mattered."
William was a charitable billionaire and former chairman of Louis Dreyfus Energy Services.
May he rest in peace.
We send our condolences to Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her family.
