Back in 2013, Zac Efron went to rehab after months-long bender.

Efron quit drinking and doing drugs, and has spoken in interviews about how getting sober changed his life and was the important decision he ever made.

Unfortunately, life is full of ups and downs – even for wealthy young movie stars.

Zac’s latest movie, We Are Your Friends, had him playing a DJ in LA’s drug-fueled club scene. Sources say the role forced Zac to confront one some of his demons for the first time since getting sober.

Sadly, all that work didn’t pay off, as WAYF was a colossal flop, and was met with one of the worst opening weekends in Hollywood history.

Now, sources close to the actor say that he’s been behaving strangely, and friends are worried that Efron is back on drugs.

“Zac has been starting to hang out with some of his bad influence friends again,” a source close to Efron tells Radar Online. “Zac keeps a pretty tight circle and his friends are legitimately worried about him because of everything that he has been going through,”

Even crew members on the set of Efron’s newest film, Neighbors 2, have noticed that something is amiss:

“Zac showed up to a cast party in Atlanta and he looked like he was totally out of it,” says one insider. “He was complaining to anyone who would listen that he had to make a movie about a drug-fueled music scene – without being able to use drugs.”

Sources sat Efron was recently humiliated when he forgot his 1-year anniversary with girlfriend Sami Miro. Since then, he’s reportedly been avoiding his usual circle of friends and has withdrawn from public life.

“Zac’s friends have been texting and calling and he isn’t being responsive,” says a source. “When he has responded it is always just a one word answer, followed by nothing.”

Efron has yet to comment on reports that he may be using again.
