When we first learned that Nicki Minaj would be producing and starring in a television series, we immediately pictured an anime-style seizure inducing day-glo cartoon in which Nicki plays a badass Barbie that comes to life to settle her beef with Miley Cyrus by shooting lasers out of her eyes.
Sadly, it seems the actual project is a bit more traditional, but we’re sure it’ll be cool, nonetheless:
It was announced today that the rapper is developing a sitcom about her own childhood for ABC Family.
Nicki was born in Trinidad & Tobago in 1982, but her family moved to America when she was just 5.
The show will reportedly offer a humorous take on Nicki’s often difficult upbringing in Queens during the ’90s.
“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said ABC Family’s Executive Vice President Karey Burke.
“Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Nicki. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
Recently unearthed footage of Nicki in high school shows that she was quite the spitfire even in her early teen years, so we imagine her character will deliver plenty of confidence and attitude. We can’t wait.
