Demi Lovato is not Kylie Jenner or Kendall Jenner.
She does not pose in a provocative manner simply to build an Instagram fan base or just to make headlines.
No, the 23-year old – who flaunts major cleavage on this cover of Cosmopolitan – spent many weeks in rehab toward the end of 2010, mostly due to an eating disorder and severe self-confidence issues.
So when she embraces her sexuality, Lovato does so as a means of therapy, as a way of showing how far she has come.
With an album aptly titled “Confident” due out on October 16, Demi made this point clear in an interview this week with BBC’s Radio 1.
“This album is not just about the things that I’ve been through, it’s more mature, it’s sexier, it’s soulful,” Lovato said. “It’s a new chapter in my life, I’m tired of my past defining who I am.”
That past included a time when Lovato would never (ever!) have flaunted any part of her body in public. But now?
"I have worked on myself and I look hot, so I’m going to work it,” she told host Clara Amfo.
“I’m going to show the world that you can go from having an eating disorder and hating your body to wearing underwear on the cover of a magazine and love it. You know, it’s possible."
You tell ’em, Demi! Heck, you show ’em!
Elsewhere during her radio appearance, Lovato covered Hozier’s "Take Me to Church." Watch the impressive performance above.
