It’s been three months since Caitlyn Jenner debuted on the cover of Vanity Fair, and the Olympian-turned-reality-star still hasn’t legally changed her name or gender.
TMZ is reporting that Caitlyn finally started the process by filing papers in LA County Court this morning.
So why would she put it off when she’s been waiting her whole life to transition?
Well, it seems that Caitlyn feared that her private information might be made public as a result of her application.
Prior to submitting her papers, Jenner made a formal request that the judge keep her information sealed.
The reason behind her concern is sad, but all too predictable.
While Caitlyn says most people have been supportive of her transition, she’s received hate mail and online threats from hundreds of angry bigots.
Caitlyn reportedly fears that if her contact information became a matter of public record, it could quite literally put her life in danger.
Sources say the the judge in Caitlyn’s case will almost certainly comply with her request for additional privacy.
The application may take a few weeks to process, and after that, Caitlyn’s transition will be complete.
Hopefully, she’ll celebrate with another ceremony just like she did in the I Am Cait season finale.
