By now, you’re probably familiar with the story of Kim Davis, but in case you’ve been avoiding all media for fear of being traumatized by witnessing Donald Trump’s inevitable coronary event, allow us to fill you in:
Davis is a Kentucky county clerk who refused to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples, even though that’s a major part of her job.
In fact, Davis was so pissed about the SCOTUS ruling in favor of gay marriage that she respectfully stepped down from her post.
Just kidding! That’s what a mildly sane person might do in her position!
No, Kim decided she would stop granting marriage licenses to any couples (even male-female ones), because apparently fulfilling her basic job requirements conflicts with her religious beliefs. Try that one on your boss later and see how far it gets you.
It didn’t work out so well for Kim, who was imprisoned for her refusal to what the f–k she was elected to do, but now it seems like her crusade of ignorance is paying off.
Not surprisingly, the “sanctity of marriage” advocate (who’s been married four times herself) has become a darling of the radical right.
Mike Huckabee held a rally for Davis after she was released from prison (Huckabee has a long history of betting on the wrong horse.), and now, Bristol Palin is seizing the opportunity to spew her sadly-not-unique brand of outraged ignorance all over the Davis situation.
Specifically, Bristol is pissed about a smart phone game that allows users to throw marriage certificates at a cartoon version of Davis, who “turns red and cringes” in response.
Scathing stuff, and certainly the sort of thing that should spark a national debate.
Sarcasm. Only Bristol cares about this at all, and for some reason, she is super pissed:
“The same people who shout “EQUALITY FOR ALL” will mock a Christian woman for not agreeing with them,” Bristol wrote in a blog post entitled “TOLERANCE IN ACTION”
“This is such hypocrisy. Shame on anyone involved in making this game and the LBGT community for accepting a part of this game…Makes me sick. Let everyone have THEIR OWN BELIEFS – whether you agree or not.”
Yes, Bristol is decrying hypocrisy and encouraging us to “let everyone have THEIR OWN BELIEFS” while defending a woman who would rather go to prison then allow people the basic rights that have been guaranteed to them by the Supreme Court.
Our apologies if your head just exploded all over your laptop. Be sure to clean between the keys.
To be clear, Bristol is equating a public official breaking the law by refusing to carry out the basic duties of her position with the Internet doing what it does and making fun of a public figure.
Have you checked out this world wide web thing, Bristol? Everyone gets made fun of! If that’s not equality, we don’t know what is.
Go ahead and Google “Bristol Palin jokes” and see what the world has to say about you. Get back to us when you’re done scrolling through all the results. Should be just in time for you to see Kanye win the 2020 election in a landslide.
