A new doctor is in!
With fans still grieving the loss of Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, ABC has confirmed that a new male surgeon has been cast on Grey’s Anatomy Season 12.
He’ll be portrayed by someone familiar to Shondaland fans:
Martin Henderson played Dr. Ben Keeton on the very short-lived drama Off the Map.
Few details are available regarding Henderson’s character at this time, but he’s expected to be a surgeon and he’s expected to debut on the September 24 season premiere.
Dempsey, of course, was killed off Grey’s Anatomy toward the end of Season 11.
His beloved McDreamy was slammed into by an 18-wheeler, despite the fact that Dempsey signed a new two-year contract with the series in 2013.
There’s been chatter that Dempsey was fired for cheating on his wife on set, but the actor has made it clear for awhile that he wanted to move on from the drama.
So creator Shonda Rhimes probably just went ahead and granted his wife… in the most painful way possible.
