Big Brother is back on CBS, and last night’s premiere promised us many twists to keep us – and the house guests – on their toes all summer long.

Julie Chen says Season 17 of the guilty pleasure slash reality TV staple will be more "twisted" than ever (see what she did there). We believe her.

Besides Audrey Middleton being the show’s first transgender contestant (and hot), the first half of the two-night premiere was pretty standard.

As for those aforementioned Big Brother twists, we know three of them …

1. Battle of the Block. It’s back. That means two Head of Households (or Heads of Household) and two strong nominees versus two weak nominees.

The dual HoH format will likely mean deals to not nominate so-and-so should they lose, and so on, opening up the game for serious backstabbing.

2. The Doppelganger. Two separate players will alternate inside the Big Brother house and try to portray themselves as one person. Seriously.

If they survive past a certain number of evictions, the doppelganger will be revealed, and allowed to come into the house and join the game.

This should be pretty entertaining for viewers if nothing else.

We’re not sure who the contestant(s) will be, but we know that Liz has an identical twin sister, so that seems like a logical assumption there.

3. New Weekly Twists. Who knows what these will even consist of or if they will have any tangible impact on the game, but we will find out.

If the goal is to keep us guessing and intrigued? Done.

Other highlights from the Season 17 premiere …

  • Audrey tried a girl alliance on night one, a risky move, although it’s unclear of these guys are tough enough to make her pay for it.
  • Shelli clearly wanted to jump Clay.
  • James won Head of Household, surviving a lackluster battle of objects being hucked at the cast. Pretty standard #BigBrother.
