There’s a reason why Kelly Clarkson is an American Idol winner… a three-time Grammy winner… a 12-time Billboard Music Award winner… and the recipient of many other awards too numerous to include in this introduction.
Actually, there are multiple reasons. And they were all on display during American Idol last night.
First, can we talk about that incredible voice?!? It took center stage for a version of "Heartbeat Song" and also of "At Last" and you need to watch both pitch perfect performances now:
Second, Clarkson served as a mentor to the finalists on Wednesday, dishing out such gems as:
- To Nick Fradiani: "Find that red dot and make sweet love."
- On Quentin Alexander: "I want to make sweet love to those amazing eyes."
- She also said "Miss Independent" was her "favorite song still to perform live."
- And she also said she may have gotten pregnant from Clark Beckham’s bluesy spin on her song from the Love Actually soundtrack, "The Trouble With Love Is."
In other words: Clarkson doesn’t just offer up amazing responses when someone calls her fat or when she’s asked about having a gay daughter.
"She has this energy to her that immediately puts you at ease," Joey Cook told Us Weekly after the show. "She has no filter. There’s nothing there. She is just herself… She’s so funny!"
Here is a look at the American Idol Top 9 covering some Clarkson classics:
