Where the heck is Derek?!?

That question hung over Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 Episode 20 even before a small plane crash took place and brought Meredith back to one of the most painful memories of her life.

The hour opened with Richard witnessing a plane crash and arriving at work with Meredith and Arizona already there, scarred by what happened to Mark and Lexie (along with Robbins’ amputation, of course).

"There oughta be some rule that people who’ve been in a plane crash can’t work on one," Alex told Callie, afraid for their friends.

But no such rule exists, of course.

While performing a procedure on the pilot, Meredith grew so distracted that Bailey gave her till 5 p.m.; at that point, and only at that point, could she panic.

Soon after, Maggie (who had only just learned from her colleagues about the previous crash) was called in to assist Meredith and Bailey.

As for Amelia and Owen? The latter agreed to be “done” because he was so frustrated by the former’s refusal to talk about their relationship.

Via a complicated series of events, Stephanie convinced Owen and Amelia that their arguing caused amnesia for one of the plane crash victims.

After the patient regained her memory (go watch Grey’s Anatomy online; this is too confounding to type out), Amelia felt ready to talk to Owen… but he was going through a tough time remembering how he put Cristina on the last plane crash and was in no mood.

Back to Maggie: she actually saved the pilot by using glue.

Afterward, she suggested that a stressed-out Meredith should go home. Her sister listened, only for a police car to arrive and tell her Derek had been in a car crash.

Is he alive?!? We have to wait until Grey’s Anatomy Season Season 11 Episode 21 to find out. Darn it!

Elsewhere, while assisting Arizona treat pregnant women whose yoga class had been crashed into by a driver who’d seen the plane’s downward spiral, Alex made her crazy with his concerned “hovering and lurking and creeping.”

She later apologized for yelling at him, only for him to reveal that he had been the one who’d performed her amputation.

Based on this information, Callie explained that she hadn’t told Arizona that it had been Alex who made the cut because first, it had been her call; and, second, she hadn’t wanted Robbins to hate both of them.

Makes sense to us.

But, seriously, is Derek okay?!?
