There may be some debate over which Super Bowl commercial was the hottest on Sunday night:

The Carl’s Jr. ad with Charlotte McKinney? The Victoria’s Secret spot? Kim Kardashian showing off some cleavage on behalf of T-Mobile?

There may also be some debate over which Super Bowl commercial was the funniest. Was it Liam Neeson revealing his affection for Clash of the Clans? A little boy strapping a rocket to a pig in order to make him fly and earn himself some Doritos?

But there is NO debate over the most depressing Super Bowl commercial: Isn’t that right, Nationwide?!?

The insurance company aired a commercial that focused on a child talking about how he’ll never be able to get married or travel the world with his best friend… because he died in a terrible household accident.

Wait… what?!?

Nationwide was attempting to warn folks about accidents at home that can be easily avoided if one is prepared.

But most viewers didn’t exactly see the Super Bowl as the ideal time or place to send this message.

Among the most critical/hilarious Tweets in response that got our attention:

  • Hope you guys are having a great day. Did you know your kid is probably gonna die soon? Enjoy your nachos & funeral planning!
  • Nationwide: Think of us as the Dead Kid Company
  • James Spader somehow less creepy than the Nationwide ad
  • Hey @Nationwide? The SB and theoretical dead kids don’t mix. You assholes.

That last one was courtesy of Arrow Season 3 star Stephen Amell.

What did you think of the Nationwide commercial? Too dark? Too creepy? Too centered around the concept of children dying?
