Viewers were taken inside Herman’s head on Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 Episode 13, pretty much literally, as Amelia led a lecture about the complicated surgery that would be required to save her colleague.
Herman, meanwhile, was busy bonding with Arizona, as the physicians tried to plow through as many cases as possible prior to the procedure.
It wouldn’t have seemed possible weeks ago, or even at the outset of this hour, but Herman’s serious/snarky attitude dissipated as the fear of her illness came into focus.
She even reached for Arizona’s hand during treatment at one point.
Callie, for her part, was oddly jealous of this wax-free friendship, quickly catching herself and wondering whether she were wishing for a “sexless relationship where I don’t need to groom myself.”
Funny stuff. And also revealing.
Amelia was so focused on curing Herman that she tried her darndest to ignore Owen, which did not prove to be an easy task.
But she had some important work at hand; so important that two other hospitals wanted her talks recorded, as Richard called them “a master class in neurosurgery.”)
Amelia killed it at the lectern, of course, likening the tumor to a “fat-cheeked baby” fighting to survive and referring to it “one of God’s masterpieces.”
Behind the scenes, though, she was concerned, refusing to endure Derek’s “transcontinental smugness” by calling him with an inquiry and also snapping at Stephanie.
However, instead Edwards stood strong, snapping back that she idolized Amelia and challenged her to “be worthy of being believed in." AMEN!
As you’ll see when you watch Grey’s Anatomy online, though, Amelia’s fears weren’t quelled at the lecture when Callie asked whether ought to be present for the surgery. Ouch.
Toward the end of the hour, Herman was tricked into taking on a patient near and dear to Bailey, but just as she pulled up her sleeves and prepared to tackle it, her vision began to fade. wheeled into surgery herself.
Following a new scan, Amelia made it very clear: "It’s time."
