While preparing for an investors showcase at the beginning of Empire Season 1 Episode 7, the ailing CEO Lucious becomes light headed and passes out.
These are difficult times for the Empire. At the hospital, a doctor reveals that the experimental treatment Lucious has been undergoing is not helping.
If anything, it’s making things worse.
As they prep for the showcase, Lucious raises the personal stakes when he insists Elle be the headline act and Jamal and Hakeem perform together.
Also on the personal front, Hakeem attempts to commit more to Camilla, while Michael breaks up with Jamal and Becky makes a surprising discovery.
When she sees that Jamal’s daughter Lola has been left at Empire, Lucious takes her home to stay at his house. And the family drama is just beginning.
Jamal and Hakeem put their differences aside to perform together at the showcase, while Lucious loses his voice before he has to make a speech.
He enlists Cookie to speak in his place and she does great, and his bid to present Empire as rock solid is a success thanks to such a united family front.
Behind closed doors, it’s a different story though. Isn’t it always? If you watch Empire online, you know this all too well, and the wheels began to come off.
When Lucious assembles the family to tell them about his ALS diagnosis, Andre flips out, while Hakeem and Jamal come together and try to stay strong.
Then the epic conclusion: Lucious comforts Cookie and they kiss, which leads to more, and by more we mean Anika catching them in bed together.
