On Criminal Minds Season 10 Episode 11, J.J. confronted some old demons as the team sought to unravel the mystery of frozen bodies in the silver state.
At the onset of Criminal Minds Season 10 Episode 11, J.J. is boxing with a sparring partner in the gym when she has a scary flashback and loses it.
In the locker room, she gets an IM from Garcia about a case, then suffers another flashback about getting tortured. She smashes her locker in rage.
The new case is in Nevada, where the body of a woman wrapped and weighed down in the water, with marks consistent with electric shock, is found.
Based on her own experience, J.J. believes the UnSub wants her to feel the pain of death, so he jolts her back awake with electric shocks in the process.
Meanwhile, Carl Mason sits outside of a hardware store waiting for someone when he is abducted by two men, taken somewhere and put in a freezer.
The dead frozen woman is Sarah Rhodes, an Arizona mother of a 10-year-old boy named Bobby. Her credit card and phone were canceled years ago.
The electric shock marks are also consistent with resuscitation efforts, and we see Mason removed from the freezer and shocked back into consciousness.
A religious congregation and leader then applaud this ritual.
Reid and J.J. interview one of Sarah’s friends, who tells her that Bobby’s father was never a factor and that there’s an alert out for the missing boy.
They determine she was brainwashed by a cult. Soon enough, Garcia finds a frostbite victim who may have been another member, named Tom Fallon.
Kate and Morgan visit Tom’s mom, who learns he is living there and that the cult has ordered them not to defame its character under threat of legal action.
Interviewing Tom, Kate pretends to buy into his brainwashed musings in order to extract information on the cult he refers to as "The Forever People."
He shows her, gruesomely, that he is missing his fingers.
Clearly upset about matters beyond this case, J.J. reveals to Reid that she was pregnant and had lost a baby girl during her ordeal with Tivon Askari.
