After an emotional and very all-acted reunion between mother, father and daughter on The Originals Season 2 Episode 9, the Mikaelson siblings got down to business.
In order to take down Esther, Rebekah volunteered to be made mortal. She was willing to take the risk because part of her wants to be mortal. She wants to be loved. She wants to have a family.
But the plan was for it to never get that far.
With the assistance of Davina and Kol (who demanded a diamond in return, something he could curse a dagger with as protection against Klaus), the team came up with a scheme to block Esther’s spell just as she was putting it on Rebekah.
That way, she would be vulnerable and they could kill her before she switched bodies.
Kol also found another young woman to put Rebekah’s body into in case it didn’t all work out, supposedly some random girl in the French Quarter.
So everything was in place when Rebekah went to visit Esther.
But things quickly went wrong after Esther said she wanted to do away with Rebekah’s vampire body (via the white oak stake, which Kol gave to her after Klaus gave it to him, as a means for Esther to trust him) before turning her.
Klaus then showed up, many words were exchanged and Esther put the spell into motion. Klaus pounced, though, and stabbed his mother in the neck. Rebekah fainted.
The family was able to save her body and put it into a casket for safe-keeping, but Rebekah would not awaken. And Kol would put one over on his brother:
As an act of revenge against the siblings that always made him feel like an outsider, he transferred Rebekah to the body of a witch who is trapped forever inside a large home in New Orleans. And just who trapped this witch there? Klaus.
He had a spell placed on that residence in 1914 in order to punish those who helped Kol steal. So we ended the winter finale with Rebekah, in her new body, pounding on the door and begging to be let out.
If you watch The Originals online, you’ll also see the following developments:
- Elijah gave Hayley his blessing to marry Jackson, in order to help keep Hope safe by reuniting the werewolves, just before these two had hot sex.
- Esther agreed to leave Klaus for Mikael to kill and someone let Finn out of his casket. Mikael, we presume.
- Rebekah dropped some blood into Esther’s wine before Klaus stabbed her. So died she died with vampire blood in her system and a choice to make when she awoke: perish forever… or become what she hates the most.
The Originals is now on hiatus until January 19.
