After many weeks of hype, Peter Pan Live! finally took flight on NBC last night.
Did Allison Williams soar in the iconic title role? Or did she deserve the sort of criticism that came Carrie Underwood’s way a year ago after the same network aired The Sound of Music Live?
And what about Christopher Walken as Captain Hook?
Come on, who doesn’t adore Christopher Walken?!?
Even when he forgets a line? Or several?
Yes, despite his experience as an amazing Saturday Night Live host, Walken clearly searched for words on at least one occasion during this live live rendition of the classic play.
Among other memorable moments:
- Williams dancing with her shadow in “I’ve Gotta Crow” was maybe the best number of the evening.
- Walken’s penciled-on eyebrows were a little too penciled-on.
- Tiger Lily’s crew was dressed a bit like Kim Kardashian in Paper Magazine.
- Taylor Lauderman brought enthusiasm, wide-eyed wonder and a terrific voice to the role of Wendy.
- The screen kept telling viewers to use “Shazam to Sing Along.” Curious: Did a single viewer do this?
- The crocodile was just a tad fake looking. Seriously, Bruce Jenner’s face looks more real..
- At one point, as Pan, Williams encouraged “kids at home [to] clap and cheer to keep Tinkerbelle alive!” A weird meta moment on its own, made more so by the fact that was aired at 10 p.m. on the East Coast.
- Hey, that’s Minnie Driver! As whom? We won’t ruin it for you, but the actress appeared in the final scene.
So… did Peter Pan Live soar to great heights or did it suck?
