Jennifer Lawrence mocked her lack of singing ability during an appearance last month on The Late Show with David Letterman.
But if the charts are to be believed, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor and Selena Gomez appear to have some competition on their hands from the multiple-time Oscar nominee.
Lawrence made her first appearance yesterday on the Billboard Hot 100, dropping in at number-12 for her rendition of “The Hanging Tree” in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.
The haunting single sky-rocketed after the November 21 release of the blockbuster, in which Lawrence, stars opposite Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, and many others.
"The Hanging Tree" now sits just a handful of spots behind Swift’s "Blank Space" at No. 1; Trainor’s "All About That Bass" at No. 2; Hozier’s "Take Me to Church" at No. 3; Gomez’s "The Heart Wants What It Wants" at No. 6; and Ariana Grande’s "Love Me Harder" at No. 10.
In her aforementioned sit-down with Letterman, Lawrence said she doesn’t like “singing front of other people” and that she “cried” on the “awful” day she had to belt out this single for the movie.
Now? J. Law may still be crying. But they’re tears of joy as a result of this chart achievement.
